METI to Hold Digital Content Expo 2015- Introduction of Digital Content Technologies Which Change Sports -

The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) will hold the Digital Content Expo (DC EXPO) 2015, an exhibition of digital content technologies, jointly with the Digital Content Association of Japan (DCAJ) from October 22 (Thu.) through 25 (Sun.), 2015. During this period, there will be exhibits of cutting-edge digital content technologies, and visitors will be able to experience the technologies firsthand

1. Outline of the Digital Content Expo 2015

The DC EXPO 2015 is to be an international exhibition demonstrating a wide variety of technologies related to the digital content industry. As an official CoFesta (Japan International Content Festival) 2015 event, the DC EXPO will be held for the eighth time in 2015. Under the theme of “Bridge to Innovation,” the expo will feature displays such as those introducing the technologies selected for Innovative Technologies 2015 and which will allow visitors to experience cutting-edge technology, along with events such as symposiums featuring notable domestic and international public figures, with the goal of providing the largest number of people possible, including domestic and foreign content technology engineers as well as the general public, with an opportunity to experience future content technologies.

Dates and opening hours:
From October 22 (Thu.) through 25 (Sun.), 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
* The press preview will be held on October 22, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Visiting the venue after 1:00 p.m. on October 22 requires prior registration.

2. Main programs

(1) Innovative Technologies 2015

“Innovative Technologies” is a program highlighting technologies which are expected to greatly contribute to the growth of the content industry. METI called for a wide range of advanced candidate technologies with the potential to have applications in other industries and create new markets, and selected 20 technologies for Innovative Technologies 2015 from among 69 applications. The selected technologies will be on display and demonstrated at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) for general visitors.

(2) Features 2015

“Features” is a program highlighting technologies which have been drawing attention during the year and to introduce them through exhibitions and symposiums. The theme for 2015 is “Digital Content Technologies Which Change Sports.” Such technologies will be featured at the DC EXPO, including technologies for disabled athletes and for better experiences while watching sports with highly realistic sensations.

(3) Content Technology Showcase

“Content Technology Showcase” is a program introducing advanced technologies developed by enterprises and universities. Visitors will be able to experience these cutting-edge technologies firsthand in the exhibition area while listening to the developers’ explanations. In addition, other programs, such as symposiums, seminars, and workshops will be held by researchers and creators who are active on the front lines.

(4) International Programs

“International Programs” will provide opportunities to identify global trends through the introduction of overseas events in the field of content, exhibitions of overseas cutting-edge technologies and efforts, and lectures by prominent international figures, in collaboration with overseas organizations related to the content industry.
