Joint Press Release with the Consumer Affairs AgencyRecall of Electric Fan Heaters (Ceramic Fan Heaters) Imported by Sengoku Works, Ltd. and Sold by Koizumi Seiki Corp. (Product Replacement)

Serious product accidents involving electric fan heaters (ceramic fan heaters) imported by Sengoku Works, Ltd. and sold by Koizumi Seiki Corp. occurred, causing the products to ignite.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) received reports of the incidents and announced them as serious product accidents on March 13, 2015, in accordance with Article 35 (1) of the Consumer Product Safety Act, which relates to accidents of unclear origin in products.

Based on subsequent investigations of the cause of the accidents, on January 20, 2016, Koizumi Seiki Corp. announced on its website and in newspapers that it will replace the products in question.

METI would like to alert consumers who have purchased the products in question so that they may make use of the replacement service offered by the company.

1. Nature of the accidents and recurrence-prevention measures

1) Nature of the accidents

Two serious product accidents involving electric fan heaters (ceramic fan heaters) imported by Sengoku Works, Ltd. and sold by Koizumi Seiki Corp. occurred, causing the products to ignite. The accidents were reported to METI in accordance with Article 35 (1) of the Consumer Product Safety Act (Control Nos. A201300830 and A201400825).
Concerning the cause of the accidents, the investigation concluded that a manufacturing defect in an electrical connection in the heaters caused abnormal heat generation, resulting in fire.

In addition, two accidents were reported to the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) as product accidents that do not fall under Article 35 (1) of the Consumer Product Safety Act.

2) Recurrence-prevention measures

To prevent further accidents, the company announced on its website and in newspapers on January 20, 2016 that it will replace the products in question.
