Winners of New Diversity Management Selection 100 in FY 2015- Thirty-four enterprises were selected for creating new value by embracing diversity in the workplace.

On March 16, 2016, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) selected 34 enterprises for the New Diversity Management Selection 100 project that have achieved a variety of successes, such as the creation of innovation and improvement of productivity, by utilizing diverse human resources in their business, including women, people from overseas, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

1. Details of New Diversity Management Selection 100

To strengthen Japanese enterprises’ competitiveness in the face of economic globalization and an aging society with fewer children, it is necessary to provide diverse human resources, including women, foreign people, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, with opportunities to exercise their potential to the greatest extent possible and to take part in the value creation process.

Diversity management is a strategy under which enterprises conduct management so as to create innovation and generate value with diverse human resources while providing them with the opportunity to exercise their maximum potential.
Aiming to expand the foundation from which enterprises promote diversity management, METI started the Diversity Management Selection 100 project in FY 2012 (METI Minister’s Awards). Under this project, METI recognizes enterprises of various sizes and in various industries that proactively make efforts to carry out diversity management as those possessing a management capability that contributes to Japan’s economic growth. METI then widely publicizes such enterprises’ efforts to the public as best practices. In FY 2015, the project entered a new phase called “the New Diversity Management Selection 100”, for which METI has set priority issues such as innovation in working styles and expanding work fields for women. METI has been collecting cases which can serve as effective examples for management to follow.

On March 16, 2016, METI selected 34 outstanding enterprises as winners of the New Diversity Management Selection 100 project from 148 applicants that promote the contributions of diverse human resources through increased diversity management efforts.

METI will also make efforts to expand the number of enterprises striving for diversity management by raising awareness of good practices.
