Joint Press Release with the National Public Safety Commission and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Status of the Occurrence of Acts of Unauthorized Computer Access and Progress of Research and Development on Technology relating to Access Control Features Are Compiled

The National Public Safety Commission (NPSC), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Telecommunications (MIC) Minister, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Minister are to publicize the status of the occurrence of acts of unauthorized computer access and the progress of research and development on technology relating to access control features, pursuant to the provisions of Article 10 (1) of the Act on Prohibition of Unauthorized Computer Access (Act No. 128 of 1999, hereinafter referred to as the “Unauthorized Computer Access Act”).

1. Status of the occurrence of acts of unauthorized computer access

The Commission and Ministries have publicized the status of the occurrence of acts of unauthorized computer access that occurred during the period from January 1 through December 31, 2015.

2. Progress of research and development on technology relating to access control features

The Commission and Ministries have publicized both the progress of research and development on technology relating to access control features within the jurisdiction of at least one of the NPSC, the MIC, and METI and the progress of such research and development conducted by entities including private companies which have conducted surveys and calls for information for such research and development.

Article 10 (1): To help protect Specified Computers with an Access Control Feature from acts of unauthorized computer access, the National Public Safety Commission, Minister for Internal Affairs and Telecommunications, and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry are to publicize the status of the occurrence of acts of unauthorized computer access and progress of research and development on technology relating to Access Control Features at least once a year.
