METI Compiled the FY2015 Revised Article-by-Article Explanations of the Unfair Competition Prevention Act

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been preparing explanations of the Unfair Competition Prevention Act (hereinafter referred to as the “Act”), and hereby announces that it has compiled the FY2015 collection of explanations in which the revised provisions under the Act are additionally included.

1. Outline of the Act

The Act stipulates provisions under which unfair competition activities, including infringement of trade secrets, camouflaging place of origin, and selling pirated products, are regulated, and also stipulates civil and criminal penalties targeting such activities. The Act came into force in 1934 and has been revised as needed since the full revision in 1993, so as to respond to conditional changes in economic activities in Japan.

2. Outline of the collection

The FY2015 Revised Article-by-Article Explanations of the Unfair Competition Prevention Act additionally provides explanations of provisions that were newly added by the revision of the Act in 2015 as well as the recent court precedents related to the Act throughout the collection.
