The First Meeting of the Long-term Global Warming Countermeasures Platform to be Held

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold a meeting of the Long-term Global Warming Countermeasures Platform on July 5, 2016. The platform, consisting of members from the government, industry and academia, will discuss measures for reducing greenhouse gas emissions on a long-term basis from 2030 onward.

1. Outline

COP21 Decision in December 2015 invites Parties to communicate, by 2020, to the secretariat mid-century, long-term low greenhouse gas emission development strategies.

Therefore, METI will hold meetings of the Long-term Global Warming Countermeasures Platform, attended by representatives from the government, industry and academia, to compile a list of issues which shouldbe addressed in order to reduce greenhouse on a long-term basis from 2030 onward and seek sustainable global warming countermeasures compatible with economic growth. METI will compile the details of those discussions within this fiscal year. Discussions will continue as necessary and the results will be utilized in establishing Japan’s long-term low greenhouse gas emission development strategies.
