METI and IoT Acceleration Lab Will Hold Business Matching Events Targeting Companies Inside and Outside Japan at CEATEC JAPAN, a Comprehensive IT and Electronics Exhibition

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and IoT Acceleration Lab will hold [i] an event titled “Third IoT Lab Connection,” on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, for theme-based project organization and collaboration among companies and [ii] a new event titled “Global Connection,” on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, for project organization and collaboration between overseas companies in India, Israel, and the ASEAN region with companies in Japan, aiming for the creation and public implementation of advanced projects utilizing IoT. Both events will be held at the site of the CEATEC JAPAN exhibition.

On August 1, 2016, METI and IoT Acceleration Lab began calling for applicants on the IoT Acceleration Lab website for participation in the events as well as casting ballots on preferable overseas companies to be invited. METI and IoT Acceleration Lab are looking forward to receiving your application and ballot for the events.

1. Purpose

With the technological advent of IoT, AI, and big data, industrial and societal structures are seeing significant changes. In response to this situation, the IoT Acceleration Lab aims to create advanced projects utilizing IoT and achieve public implementation of such projects. To this end, it has been undertaking feasibility studies and related efforts, including: review of regulations and systems necessary for the implementation; and actual demonstration projects, including creation of new cross-industry regulations to accelerate the development of the environment for IoT and other related technologies.

As part of the supportive efforts for collaboration among companies, in January 2016, METI and IoT Acceleration Lab held the First IoT Lab Connection event, a solution-matching event focusing on tourism and manufacturing, and also held the Second IoT Lab Connection in July 2016, focusing on health care/medical care and sports; and logistics, distribution, and infrastructure.

At the Third IoT Lab Connection, the solution matching event will focus on two themes: [i] smart homes; and [ii] mobility, and will provide a solution-matching event targeting IoT Acceleration Lab member companies or corporate groups, associations and municipalities that have business models, technologies, and services related to the themes.

In addition, METI and IoT Acceleration Lab will invite companies leading advanced IoT projects in India, Israel, and the ASEAN region to participate in the Global Connection event, where a solution-matching event will be held between the invited companies and IoT Acceleration Lab members.

Overseas companies to be invited will be selected through casting ballots by IoT Acceleration Lab members. If you wish to cast a ballot, please visit the IoT Acceleration Lab member website, from August 1 to 26, 2016, to ascertain the business profile and details of overseas companies and cast a ballot on preferable advanced projects. Furthermore, if you wish to participate in the solution-matching event, please register the business profile of your company in advance. Based on the examination results of cast ballots, METI and IoT Acceleration Lab will select companies and hold a solution-matching event between them and IoT Acceleration Lab members.

METI and IoT Acceleration Lab are looking forward to receiving your application.
