Agency for Natural Resources and Energy Inauguration of the Nuclear Reprocessing Organization of Japan

On October 3, 2016, the Nuclear Reprocessing Organization of Japan was inaugurated under the Act for Partial Revision of the Spent Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing Implementation Act (hereinafter referred to as the “Act”).

1. Outline of the organization

Following the authorization of its establishment as an authorized corporation by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry on September 20, 2016, the organization was inaugurated under the Act on October 3, 2016. The organization will aim to advance steady and efficient reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel, among other efforts.

2. Details of the president and auditor

Under the provisions of Article 31 (1) of the Act, a president and an auditor were appointed for the organization, regarding which an informal offer was publicized on September 20, 2016 (See the Appendix).

Note: The names of the board members, other than the president, and the members of a steering committee of the organization will be publicized separately by the organization soon after the president appoints them.

In addition, the inauguration ceremony of the organization will be held on October 3, 2016, in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture.
