Agency for Natural Resources and Energy LNG Producer-Consumer Conference 2016 was Held

On November 24 (Thur.), 2016, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC) held the LNG Producer-Consumer Conference 2016 in Tokyo.

This year marks the fifth time the conference has been held, with more than 1,000 people involved in the field from about 40 nations and regions around the world attending, including ministerial-level officials and top executives of related enterprises. This has marked a huge step toward realizing specific aspects of the LNG Market Strategy, which METI released in May 2016.

Outline of the conference

  • At the conference, aiming to realize specific aspects of the LNG Market Strategy, which METI released in May 2016, participants discussed the development of flexible, mobile LNG markets, ideal approaches to setting appropriate price indices in which the supply and demand of LNG are reflected, the exploitation of new LNG markets in Asia, and other issues (for details, see the Summary Statement of the Conference, a compiled report of the conference results).
  • Moreover, Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Mr. Yosuke Takagi, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held bilateral meetings with the seven ministers, two directors of international organizations’ secretariats, and other officials participating, and exchanged views concerning cooperation toward the development of international LNG markets and other issues.
