Agency for Natural Resources and Energy A Handbook for Demand Response (Negawatt Trading) Prepared A guide to be released for smart energy saving
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has prepared a Handbook for Demand Response (Negawatt Trading) to popularize efforts for participating in the demand response (negawatt trading) program in the future.
1. Outline of the demand response (negawatts trading) program
The demand response program is an initiative with the aim of controlling electricity demand. In particular, negawatt trading, which is a system in which electricity utilities utilize negawatt aggregators to pay for the amount of electricity saved by consumers (negawatts), is expected to become common after the inauguration of a new negawatt trading market in April 2017.
In the program, negawatt aggregators will play a core role in serving as a mediator between consumers who control electricity demand and electricity utilities and in tallying electricity savings from consumers.
2. Outline of the handbook
To implement the program, cooperation from electricity consumers, who are players in controlling electricity demand, is indispensable. To this end, METI prepared a handbook, mainly for consumers, which contains the summary of the program, procedures for participating in the program and other information.
