METI Minister Seko Visited the United States

On March 16 (local time), 2017, Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited Washington D.C., the United States, and held meetings with H.E. Mr. Gary Cohn, Director, National Economic Council, H.E. Mr. Rick Perry, Secretary, Department of Energy, and H.E. Mr. Wilbur Ross, Secretary, Department of Commerce.

1. Meeting with National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn (morning, March 16)

At the meeting, both sides exchanged views on their respective understandings and ideas concerning the current economic situation surrounding Japan and the United States. Minister Seko explained the achievements of Abenomics as well as future challenges therein.

2. Meeting with Energy Secretary Rick Perry (afternoon, March 16)

At the meeting, both sides confirmed that strong cooperative relationship in various areas in the energy field and also reaffirmed that both would continue to work together to deepen further cooperative relationship.

 

3. Meeting with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross (afternoon, March 16)

At the meeting, both sides exchanged views on their respective understandings and ideas concerning the current situation in the fields of economy and commerce. Minister Seko explained the current situation surrounding commerce in the Asian-Pacific region following the United States’ withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), including the results of latest round of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiation.
