The cabinet decides to submit the application to host the International Registered Exhibition in 2025 and to present a bid dossier.

On April 11, 2017, the cabinet decided that the Government of Japan officially submits to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) its application to host the International Registered Exhibition in 2025 and present a full bid dossier following the submission. Based on the decision, Japan will promptly undertake the procedures for both the application and the bid dossier for organizing the exhibition.

1. Background and Purpose

Since December 2016, the 2025 World Exposition Assessment Committee has been discussing the draft basic concepts concerning the 2025 International Exposition prepared by Osaka Prefecture. A report was compiled concerning Osaka Prefecture as a candidate to host the 2025 International Registered Exhibition under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” In light of the report, on April 11, 2017, the Cabinet decided to submit the application to host the International Registered Exhibition in 2025 and to present a bid dossier.

2. Future Schedule

Under the Convention Relating to International Exhibitions, Japan will take both procedures for organizing the exhibition without delay.

Notes:

  • The closing date to submit the application to host the International Registered Exhibition in 2025 is May 22, 2017.
  • The term “bid dossier” refers to the outline of the candidate’s vision for the exhibition and identifies the theme of the proposed exhibition. The closing date is September 28, 2017.
