Agency for Natural Resources and Energy Geological Disposal Technology Working Group has compiled a Report Titled “Summary of Requirement and Criteria for Nationwide Map of Scientific Features for Geological Disposal”

Concerning the final disposal of high-level radioactive waste, the Geological Disposal Technology Working Group under the Advisory Committee for Natural Resources and Energy (hereinafter referred to as the “Technology WG”) has held repeated discussions on requirements and criteria for the Nationwide Map of scientific features for geological disposal. METI hereby announces that the Technology WG compiled discussion results into a report titled “Summary of Requirement and Criteria for Nationwide Map of Scientific Features for Geological Disposal”.

Concerning the final disposal of high-level radioactive waste, the Technology WG has held repeated discussions on requirements and criteria for the Nationwide Map of scientific features for geological disposal. In addition, the Technology WG released a draft compilation report in August 2016 and called for public comments concerning the report for one month from August 9, 2016.

Following this, in light of the “Assessment Report for Current State of Final Disposal Efforts by Related Administrative Organizations and Other Entities”, which was released by the Advisory Committee on Radioactive Waste under the Japan Atomic Energy Commission on September 30, 2016, the Technology WG continued discussions focusing on the viewpoint of how to raise the accuracy and appropriateness of conveying related information to the public. As a result of the discussions, it compiled a draft compilation report anew on March 2017 and called for public comments again from March 2 to 31, 2017.

Based on the opinions submitted through the two calls for public comments in August 2016 and March 2017 and other information, the Technology WG compiled a report titled “Summary of Requirement and Criteria for Nationwide Map of Scientific Features for Geological Disposal”.
