The Eighth Career Education Awards and the Seventh Awards for Partnerships for Career Education Promotion to be Presented

This fiscal year, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry(METI)will again hold a ceremony for Career Education Awards to honor enterprises, etc., engaging in career education in order to educate children and young people on how to find a rewarding sense of satisfaction in work and links between learning at school and the real world applications.

Additionally, jointly with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT), METI will hold a ceremony for Awards for Partnerships for Career Education Promotion to honor pioneering initiatives concerning career education cooperatively carried out by educators, local communities, and related parties in the industrial sector.

Applications for both awards are accepted from July 3, 2017. Please do not hesitate to apply.

1. Purpose

Children and young people, who are to support Japanese society in the future, should be brought up by society as a whole in close collaboration with enterprises and local communities, and not only by schools. Enterprises’ activities to support education not only have significance as CSR activities but also bring about various effects on the enterprises’ side, such as strengthening employees’ motivation and revitalizing local communities.

METI will hold the Eighth Career Education Awards with the aim of broadly sharing outcomes of excellent education support activities by enterprises throughout society and further encouraging such activities.

Through the Seventh Awards for Partnerships for Career Education Promotion, METI and MEXT will commend pioneering initiatives of collaborative career education involving educators, local communities, and related parties in the industrial sector, in addition to individual efforts by single enterprises, thereby promoting the dissemination of career education nationwide.

* Career education refers to a kind of education which promotes career development toward the social and occupational independence of every student through fostering the requisite skills and behavior as the foundations necessary for success in society. Specifically, career education encompasses not only direct occupational experience, such as occupational experience activities and internships, but also activities to have students learn about the links between society and school lessons on subjects including the Japanese language, mathematics, and science.

2. Outline of the Award Systems
