METI Minister Seko Visits the United States

On June 29, 2017, Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited Washington, D.C., the United States and metwith Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, United States Trade Representative Robert E. Lighthizer, and National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn.

1. Meeting with Secretary Ross

photo1 Secretary Ross and Minister Seko deepened discussion for materializing Japan-US cooperation with regards to issues under jurisdictions of Department of Commerce and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Those issues include trade enforcement to address unfair trade practices utilized by third-countries and sectoral cooperation including digital and infrastructure.

2. Meeting with Trade Representative Lighthizer

photo2 Ambassador Lighthizer and Minister Seko agreed on the importance of further deepening cooperation to address unfair trade practices utilized by third countries that are contributing to global economic imbalance. In addition, they exchanged their perspectives on trade and investment initiatives in the Asia Pacific region.

3. Meeting with Director Cohn

Director Cohn and Minister Seko exchanged their perspectives on a state of trade and investment in the Asia Pacific region.
