Successful Projects Determined under the BrandLand JAPAN Program New challenge for overseas business development through the collaborative teams of SMEs and producers

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) started a program titled “BrandLand JAPAN” in August 2017. This program aims to support business activities, teaming SMEs with experts on foreign markets (known as “producers”, who are experts in markets, lifestyles and other elements of target countries) who are committed to advancing the business process through the steps of product development, branding, and marketing and distribution of products to win overseas demand. METI hereby announces that it has selected 12 successful projects out of 60 applicants for this program through screening by an external examination committee.

1. Outline of the program

Under the Project to Support SMEs in Developing Japan Brand Products and Services (commonly known as the “BrandLand JAPAN” program), an effort supported through the FY2017 initial budget, METI will support SMEs in making use of external human resources, a.k.a. “producers”. Through this effort, METI will assist such SMEs in deploying business activities to expand overseas sales channels.

METI will provide the selected projects with a portion of the expenditures required for producing new products, including payment and travel fees for the project “producers”; counseling opportunities with leading management and experts in related industries; support measures for communicating information and other support measures. Successful business strategies employed under the program will be broadly publicized through a variety of media including on the website exclusively for the selected projects, in progressive reports and in seminars held during various related events.

2. 12 selected projects

METI selected 12 successful projects after screening by an examination committee of external experts, based on various criteria, including concreteness of business plans, market competitiveness, effective utilization of producers, and other criteria.
