1:IoT Acceleration Consortium (ITAC)
ITAC was inaugurated in October 2015 in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), as a framework for handling products and services in the realm of the fourth industrial revolution brought about with the implementation of IoT (Internet of Things), big data and artificial intelligence, to facilitate the utilization of such achievements within the government, industry and academic sectors despite the borders between companies and industries. There are approximately 3,200 ITAC member companies as of September 2017. Specifically, ITAC has been promoting efforts with the goal of developing and demonstrating IoT-related technologies and creating new business models through the operation of multiple working groups.
2:IoT Acceleration Lab
The IoT Acceleration Lab is a working group for promoting advanced model projects, established under ITAC. It aims to create advanced IoT projects and achieve public implementation of such projects in Japan. To this end, it has been undertaking feasibility studies, as a premise for demonstration projects, and related efforts, including reviewing regulations and systems and carrying out of actual demonstration projects, e.g., creation of new cross-industry regulations, to accelerate the development of the environment for IoT and other related technologies.
3:OpenFog Consortium
OpenFog Consortium was inaugurated in November 2015 mainly by ARM, CISCO, Dell, Intel, Microsoft, Princeton University and other entities. It has been promoting efforts for developing open architecture and fog computing technology, a distributed (processing) computing in which processing is conducted at the service provider (edge) side, without using a centralized computing technology in which processing is conducted at the cloud-computing side.
4:Local IoT Acceleration Labs(in Japanese)
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the IoT Acceleration Lab have been selecting initiatives that create IoT projects in local areas as Local IoT Acceleration Labs. A call for this initiative was inaugurated in 2016, and 74 regions have been selected so far as winners.
