CEATEC JAPAN 2017 “Connected Industries” Symposium to be Held

The Connected Industries policy is a Japanese Government concept aiming to create new added value or overcome societal challenges through connecting a variety of industries. As part of the efforts to achieve this goal, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold a symposium.

At the symposium that will be held as a side event of the CEATEC JAPAN 2017, METI will explain the overview of an action plan of the Connected Industries policy concept. Moreover, participants will hold a panel discussion concerning specific approaches to achieving the policy concept taking up case examples of leading regional companies or SMEs as well as those of collaborative efforts between large or medium enterprises and venture businesses.

1. Background and purpose

In March 2017, METI released the policy concept “Connected Industries” as a goal that Japanese industries should aim to create new value through connecting things, people, technologies, organizations and other social elements.

In light of this, in June and July 2017, METI held the Connected Industries Symposiums. At the symposiums, experts in the industry and academia sectors held panel discussions, and participants shared information on case examples of leading companies and also deepened their understanding of the policy concept through panelists’ proactive discussions on future directions and possible challenges in efforts involving the concept.

*For details of the previous symposiums, see following press releases:

METI will explain the overview of an action plan of the Connected Industries policy concept, in light of the discussion results of the round table conferences held between METI Minister Seko and industrial players and other stakeholders as well. Moreover, participants will hold a panel discussion concerning specific approaches to achieving the policy concept taking up case examples of leading regional companies or SMEs as well as those of collaborative efforts between large or medium enterprises and venture businesses.
