The Third Japan-Indonesia Policy Dialogue on Distribution was Held

On August 16 (Wed.), 2017, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of Trade of Republic of Indonesia held the Third Japan-Indonesia Policy Dialogue on Distribution.

2. Outline of the results

On August 16 (Wed.), 2017, METI and the Ministry of Trade of Republic of Indonesia held the Third Japan-Indonesia Policy Dialogue on Distribution in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Mr. Toshimitsu Fujiki, Director-General for Commerce and Service Industry Policy, METI, requested Indonesia to relax the investment regulations imposed on foreign distributors and the sales regulations imposed on alcoholic drinks in the country. In addition, he also requested the country to avoid further tightening of such regulations.

Moreover, Director-General Fujiki proposed that Indonesia should approve the new entry of foreign companies into markets if such companies are committed to services in which manufacturing and sales are integrated in Indonesia. In addition, he explained Japan’s Premium Friday campaign concerning efforts for expanding consumption.

In response, the Ministry of Trade of Republic of Indonesia stated that it will bring the issue of relaxing the regulations imposed on foreign investment back to the ministry to hold discussions and that the ministry will proactively discuss and analyze the proposal and campaign explained by Japan. Moreover, Indonesia requested Japan to promote Japan’s imports of bananas originating in Indonesia.

Both countries agreed to continue to hold dialogues aiming to further strengthen their relationship in the field of distribution.
