Conference on Connected Industries to be Held Event to be held just prior to the opening reception of the CEATEC JAPAN 2017 exhibition

The Connected Industries Policy is Japan’s concept aiming to create new added value or overcome societal challenges through connecting a variety of industries. As part of the efforts to achieve this goal, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold a Conference on Connected Industries, prior to the opening reception of CEATEC JAPAN 2017, Japan’s largest IoT exhibition.

At the conference, METI will release a new effort titled “Tokyo Initiative for Connected Industries” (tentative title), and representatives of the industrial players will hold presentations concerning their efforts for achieving the Connected Industries.

1. Background and purpose

In March 2017, METI released the policy concept Connected Industries as a goal that Japanese industries should aim at to create new added value by connecting a variety of things, including machines, data, technologies, organizations and other social elements.

As part of the effort to achieve this goal, METI held round table conferences three times between METI Minister Seko and representatives of the industrial players as well as various experts. At the round table conferences, participants held discussions concerning data harmonization, collaboration between large companies and venture businesses, promotion of standardization efforts and other issues, and agreed that METI will establish working groups by major field so as to advance specific discussions concerning such issues.

At the Conference on Connected Industries, METI will release a new effort titled “‘Connected Industries’ Tokyo Initiative” (tentative title), bearing in mind the discussion results at the round table conferences, and representatives of the industrial players will hold presentations concerning their efforts for achieving the Connected Industries policy concept.
