Industrial-Academic Exchange Seminar to be Held in Osaka Aiming to Foster Management Human Resources for the Service Industry in the Field of Tourism

As part of its efforts for the Industry-Academia Collaboration Project for Fostering Management Human Resources for the Service Industry, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold a seminar in Osaka, aiming to encourage the academic sector to further engage in further exchanges with industrial players to share their knowledge. This seminar will focus on the theme of fostering management human resources in the field of tourism, explain details of the efforts that universities have been engaged in, and hold a panel discussion by bringing together industry representatives and experts. METI is looking forward to your participation including not only stakeholders among the industrial players and educational institutes, but also the public who are interested in this project. 1. Industry-Academia Collaboration Project for Fostering Management Human Resources for the Service Industry

As one of its efforts to revitalize the service industry and improve its productivity, METI provides support measures for efforts under university-service provider collaboration to develop expertise and practical education programs concerning management in the service industry (under the Industry-Academia Collaboration Project for Fostering Management Human Resources in the Service Industry). Moreover, METI has been compiling the details of educational programs and particular knowledge produced by the universities participating in the project, advancing activities to broadly encourage stakeholders in the service industry to share such knowledge with each other and disseminate the knowledge across Japan.

2. Outline of the seminar

As part of these efforts, METI will hold a series of seminars, aiming to provide opportunities for exchanges between universities and industrial players and to hold a business matching event across Japan. On October 13 (Fri.), 2017, METI will hold one of these seminars in Osaka. At the seminar, stakeholders from universities that are engaging in the development and implementation of programs for fostering management human resources for the service industry in the field of tourism will explain their latest efforts. In addition, the seminar will hold a panel discussion, bringing together industry representatives, experts and participants in the seminar, providing an opportunity for them to exchange views and hold discussions on a broad variety of topics. METI is looking forward to seeing many of you at the seminar as it will be a good opportunity for explaining, in particular, the challenges facing the field of tourism and future directions of fostering human resources to tackle those challenges.

Aiming to disseminate its efforts for the project broadly to the public, METI has opened visit the website for the projectexternal link(in Japanese).
Through this website, METI will strive to explain the efforts of universities participating in this project to share information broadly with the public. Moreover, on this website, METI will provide details of these seminars and application forms for attending the seminars that can be submitted through the website.
