2. Details of the 30th TIFF

(1)Multilateral deployment under a new vision
Taking the opportunity of the 30th anniversary this year, the TIFF will be held based on a new vision, titled “Entertainment and Art in Symmetry”. Now in its 30th year, the Tokyo International Film Festival remains fully committed to sharing the joys of cinema and cultivating cultural exchanges between filmmakers and film lovers.
(2)Implementation of animation-related events
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first production of an animated work in Japan. To celebrating this, the 30th TIFF will present a special screening of selected animated works by film director Mr. Keiichi Hara, titled “The World of Keiichi Hara,” and will also present an all-night screening featuring the works of film director Mr. Makoto Shinkai.
(3)Communicating Japan’s attractiveness, an effort integrated with the Cool Japan project
The TIFF will also produce a variety of events including a special film screening at the Kabukiza Theatre, which is a cornerstone of Japan’s traditional performing arts, and will hold the “Godzilla Cinema Concert,” at the site, an event in which Godzilla will be screened with musical accompaniment by a full orchestra, providing a glimpse into Japan’s attractiveness, as well as that of films, to the rest of the world.
On October 25 (Wed.), the opening ceremony will be held at Ex Theater Roppongi, bringing together industry stakeholders from inside and outside of Japan. Through the period, the TIFF will provide stakeholders involved in the film industry as well as moviegoers from inside and outside Japan with opportunities to discover new talent and engage in mutual exchanges.
