Japan Makes a Presentation before the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) on November 15, 2017, as a Part of the Bid to Host the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai Region

The Government of Japan and the 2025 Japan World Expo Committee jointly made the second presentation before BIE member countries attending the BIE General Assembly held in Paris on November 15, 2017, as a part of the bid to host the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka and the Kansai Region.

1. Background and purpose

Four countries, i.e., France, Russia, Azerbaijan and Japan, have declared candidature to host the 2025 World Exposition. Taking advantage of the BIE General Assembly held in Paris on November 15, 2017, these countries made the second presentation before the BIE member countries, following on from the first presentation before the assembly in June 2017.

2. Outline of the presentation

Adding to delivering the video message from Prime Minister Abe, Japan attracted the attention of the member countries to its public-private commitment to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations in collaboration with other countries. Japan also stressed that the planning exposition will contribute to achieving the SDGs and that this initiative will spread from Osaka, Kansai region as a source. Moreover, Mr. Hirofumi Yoshimura, Mayor of Osaka City, delivered a presentation stating that Osaka has prepared starting efforts for achieve these goals, and introduced the proposed venue, Yumeshima Island including images depicting its Expo design in 2025.
