The Nippon Kenko Kaigi Starts Acceptance of Applications for the Large Enterprise Category of the 2018 Certified Health and Productivity Management Organization Recognition Program

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) established the Health Investment Working Group of the Next-Generation Healthcare Industrial Council and, since then, the working group has been designing the Health & Productivity Outstanding Entities Recognition Program (hereinafter referred to as the “recognition program”) through discussions at its meetings, jointly held with the Health and Productivity Management 500 Organizations Working Group and the SME Ten-Thousand Health-Declaration Working Group, endeavoring to highlight outstanding enterprises engaging in efforts to advance health and productivity management. In response, the Nippon Kenko Kaigi,* an organizer of the recognition program, recognized successful applicants, i.e., 235 entities under the large enterprise category and 318 entities under the SME category of the 2017 recognition program.

METI hereby announces that the Nippon Kenko Kaigi started, on November 17, 2017, the acceptance of applications for the 2018 recognition program concerning the large enterprise category.

Please note that for eligibility, applicants for the large enterprise category should be those that have responded to the questionnaires of the FY2017 Survey on Health and Productivity Management conducted by METI from September to October 2017.

1. Outline of health and productivity management

Health and productivity management is a practice in which entities focus on and strategically carry out efforts with regard to their employees’ health from a management perspective. Entities’ investment in health-conscious activities for employees based on their corporate philosophies will be expected to contribute to encouraging the vitality of employees, enhancing productivity and other organizational vitalization, thereby leading to an improvement in performance or stock prices as a result.

2. Outline of the recognition program

Under the recognition program, the Nippon Kenko Kaigi examines large enterprises, SMEs and other organizations engaging in initiatives for overcoming health-related challenges in regional communities or for promoting health-conscious activities led by the Nippon Kenko Kaigi, and recognizes outstanding enterprises engaging in efforts for health and productivity management.

This program endeavors to highlight these outstanding enterprises engaging in efforts to advance health and productivity management and thereby aims to organize an environment in which such enterprises are able to gain enhanced public recognition, e.g., from employees, employment seekers, related enterprises and financial institutions, as organizations engaging in strategic health and productivity management program efforts for maintaining their employees’ health from a management perspective.

The Nippon Kenko Kaigi has been promoting eight declarations collectively titled “2020 Declarations for Achieving Health-Conscious Communities and Workplaces,” including Declaration 4 “Encouraging over 500 organizations to engage in the health and productivity management program in collaboration with health insurance society members and other associations” and Declaration 5 “Encouraging over 10,000 organizations to engage in the heath-conscious management declaration efforts based on the support of Japan Health Insurance Association members and other associations.” In light of this, the recognition program also aims to help the Nippon Kenko Kaigi achieve Declarations 4 and 5.

Under the 2017 recognition program as the first recognition event, 235 entities were recognized under the large enterprise category (White 500) and 318 entities were recognized under the SME category.

3. Outline of the recognition of outstanding enterprises engaging in efforts for health and productivity management

The recognition program is categorized into two groups: the SME category targeting small- and medium-scale enterprises and medical corporations, and the large enterprise category targeting large-scale enterprises and medical corporations, and the Nippon Kenko Kaigi will recognize outstanding enterprises engaging in efforts to advance health and productivity management for the respective categories.

Under the 2018 recognition program, a recognition committee established under the Nippon Kenko Kaigi will sort applications. Nippon Kenko Kaigi will then publicize successful applicants around late-February 2018.

METI hereby announces that the Nippon Kenko Kaigi, organizer of the recognition program, started, on November 17, 2017, the acceptance of applications for the 2018 recognition program concerning the large enterprise category.

Please note that for eligibility, applicants for the large enterprise category should be those that have responded to the questionnaires of the FY2017 Survey on Health and Productivity Management conducted by METI.

From November 17, 2017, METI will sequentially send back a report on the summary of the survey results (“feedback sheet”) to the companies that responded to the FY2017 Survey on Health and Productivity Management. The feedback sheet contains a sheet called “Eligibility Status and Application Form” to show whether or not the respondent companies have satisfied the criteria of outstanding enterprises engaging in efforts for health and productivity management concerning the large enterprise category.
