Seminar for Promoting the Formulation of Projects for the Green Climate Fund(GCF)to be Held Call for participants in the seminar

On March 9(Fri.), 2018, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry(METI)and the Ministry of the Environment(MOE)will jointly hold an event titled "Seminar for Promoting the Formulation of Projects for the Green Climate Fund(GCF)" at TKP Shinbashi Conference Center.

At the seminar, major organizations inside and outside Japan will explain key points on approaches to formulating GCF projects. METI is looking forward to seeing many of you who are interested in this initiative.

1. Outline

GCF is one of the means for funding developing countries for greenhouse gases mitigation, inaugurated by the agreement reached at the 16th Session of the Conference of the Parties(COP 16)of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC)held in 2010. Member countries worldwide have declared their contribution to GCF funding of 10.3 billion dollars in total, including 1.5 billion dollars from Japan.

GCF has adopted 54 projects so far(as of February 9, 2018)that contribute to measures for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing climate change in developing countries. Concerning such projects, the government of Japan expects such developing countries to effectively make use of GCF funds so that Japan is able to advance its measures for supporting these countries through the dissemination of Japan's outstanding low-carbon technologies in these countries.

Against this backdrop, at the seminar, the GCF Secretariat and two GCF accredited entities(AEs), i.e., JICA and the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd., will make presentations on their project policies and current efforts as key points on approaches to formulating GCF projects. In addition, other participating organizations will explain the demand in developing countries and case examples of leading companies in Japan. This seminar will provide a valuable opportunity bringing together major organizations inside and outside Japan involved in GCF project formulation. METI is looking forward to seeing many of you who are interested in this initiative.
