Round Table Conference Held between Minister Seko and Businesses Certified in the First Round of Call under the Program for Certifying Re-Skill Courses

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) launched a Program for Certifying Courses on IT-Skill Training to Meet the Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (commonly referred to as “Re-Skill Program”). Under this program, METI certifies expertise and practical educational training courses mainly in the fields of IT and data. Concerning the proposed courses filed by applicants for this program, in January 2018, METI certified 16 businesses and 23 courses based on the results of strict examinations by experts in terms of technical matters and additionally by an external examination committee.

As part of the efforts under this program, METI held a round table conference with Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister of METI, bringing together these businesses certified in the first round of call under the program, to exchange views concerning ideal approaches to development of human resources that will play a key role in advancing Japan’s Connected Industries policy concept.

1. Background and purpose

The program aims to certify, under the auspices of the METI Minister, expertise and practical educational training courses for workers mainly in the fields of IT and data, in which future growth is strongly anticipated and significant contributions to employment creation are forecasted, thereby providing opportunities for workers to acquire advanced knowledge and expertise, and progress in their careers.

From September 15 to October 28, 2017, METI announced a call for the first round of applicants for courses scheduled to start after April 2018. Concerning the proposed courses filed by applicants, METI certified 16 businesses and 23 courses based on the results of strict examinations by experts in terms of technical matters and additionally by an external examination committee. METI will continue to call further rounds in a sequential and expanded manner.

As part of the efforts of this program, METI held a round table conference with Minister Seko, bringing together these businesses certified in the first round call, to exchange views concerning approaches to development of human resources that will play a key role in advancing the Connected Industries policy concept.
