The Seventh Joint Committee Meeting of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project Held

On April 2, 2018, the Seventh Meeting of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project was held in Tokyo.

At the meeting, aiming at the smooth promotion of the MAHSR project, Japan and India held discussions on the project schedule and other activities and confirmed the progress in efforts involving the project, including the Make-in-India policy and the current situation of discussions concerning the development of areas surrounding railway stations.

The meeting brought together Dr. Hiroto Izumi, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, a leader of the Japanese delegation and a co-chair of the meeting on the Japanese side, and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan as well as Mr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice-Chairman, National Institution for Transforming India Aayog, a leader of the Indian delegation and a co-chair of the meeting on the Indian side, officials from related ministries, e.g., the Ministry of Railways, the Ministry of Finance and the Embassy of India in Tokyo, and executive management of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) of India.

The two sides confirmed the steady progress of the project and also agreed that Japan and India will continue to advance mutual efforts to facilitate the smooth achievement of the project.

The government of Japan will make efforts with India toward the introduction of Japan’s High Speed Railways technologies (the Shinkansen system) into the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.
