Recall of Ceramic Fan Heater Imported by Iris Ohyama Inc. (Free Product Inspection, Repair and Replacement)

A product accident occurred in a ceramic fan heater imported by Iris Ohyama Inc. (corporate number: 3370001006799), causing the product to ignite and their surroundings to be damaged due to fire from the product.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) was informed of this accident as a serious product accident and the Consumer Affairs Agency announced it on March 6, 2018, in accordance with Article 35 (1) of the Consumer Product Safety Act, which relates to an accident of unclear origin in a product other than a gas or oil appliance.

To prevent further accidents, on April 26, 2018, Iris Ohyama Inc. made an official announcement on its website to start inspection, repair and replacement of the products in question free of charge, including the same product models.

Anyone who has purchased any of such products should contact the company as indicated below.

A product accident occurred in a ceramic fan heater imported by Iris Ohyama Inc., causing the product to ignite and their surroundings to be damaged due to the fire from the product.

One serious accident report subject to Article 35 (1) of the Act has been submitted (Control No.: A201700776).

The cause of the accident is assumed to be that some internal part of the product caused the product to ignite. METI is still investigating the details of the cause.

In addition, another product accident not covered by Article 35 (1) of the Act was reported to the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE). As the terminal of the heating part of the product was found to be burned out, the company assumed that inappropriate connection of the product caused the accident.

No injuries occurred in these cases.

2. Recurrence-prevention measures

To prevent further accidents, on April 26, 2018, Iris Ohyama Inc. provided related information on its website and will provide an inspection, repair and replacement service concerning the products subject to the recall free of charge.
