From June 22 (Fri.) to 24 (Sun.), 2018, Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Minister for Economic Cooperation with Russia, visited the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Russian Federation. He held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Nikolaev Ajsen Sergeevich, Acting Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and witnessed the conclusion of a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) between Sakha and a Japanese company. In addition, he toured sites involving the ongoing projects under the Eight-Point Cooperation Plan, including a greenhouse vegetable plant and a small smokeless waste incinerator.
1. Meeting with Acting Head Nikolaev (June 23)
Minister Seko held a meeting with Acting Head Nikolaev. Both sides agreed tocontinue support for the ongoing projects under the Eight-Point Cooperation Plan in Sakha as well as to further enrich cooperation projects toward the success of the Eastern Economic Forum to be held in September 2018.
Following this, Minister Seko witnessed the conclusion of an MOC concerning the implementation of a project for waste treatment between Sakha and Hokkaido Corporation Co., Ltd.
2. Touring sites involving the Japan-Russia cooperation projects in Yakutsk (June 24)
Minister Seko visited sites in Yakutsk involving the Japan-Russia cooperation projects under the Eight-Point Cooperation Plan. He toured a greenhouse vegetable plant that Hokkaido Corporation Co., Ltd. operates throughout the year even in the cold weather region, a small smokeless waste incinerator that the company provided to Yakutsk free of charge and has been preparing for its operation, and other facilities. Following this, he exchanged views with stakeholders concerning future approaches to enhancing these projects.
