Public Symposium Held on “Future Approaches to Strengthening Quality Assurance Systems Across Supply Chains”

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Keidanren, and the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) jointly held a public symposium aiming to encourage company management to take initiative in establishing quality assurance systems as a business strategy.

Summary of the results

METI, Keidanren, and JUSE jointly held a public symposium titled “Future Approaches to Strengthening Quality Assurance Systems Across Supply Chains,” aiming to encourage company management to take initiative in establishing quality assurance systems as a business strategy. The symposium brought together approximately 500 people.

Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, delivered opening remarks and introduced the purpose of holding the symposium, as well as METI’s efforts for strengthening quality assurance systems, including promotion of “Connected Industries.” He stated the significance of responding to the structural changes to the manufacturing industry brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the importance of top management initiatives and communications with on-site workers.

 

Following this, Mr. Hiroaki Nakanishi, Chairman of Keidanren, delivered a keynote address and detailed Keidanren’s efforts for this issue and the importance of company management’s commitment to future quality control.

Furthermore, Mr. Masahiro Sakane, Chairman, JUSE, held a speech concerning quality management and roles played by top management, and other issues.

 

Finally, a panel discussion was held to share information with participants on best practices of companies engaging in strengthening of their quality assurance systems.

METI will continue to make persistent efforts to encourage industrial players to strengthen their quality assurance systems in the manufacturing industry. For details of the symposium, METI released a video clip on METI’s official YouTube channel called “metichannel” as follows:
