Japan and Viet Nam Hold the First Energy Working Group

On July 12, 2018, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Viet Nam, held the first Japan-Viet Nam Energy Working Group in Hanoi. Energy cooperation is expected to strengthen through this working group.

1. Background

On November 9, 2017, Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and H.E. Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, Minister of Industry and Trade, Viet Nam signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on Energy fields in Da Nang, and both sides agreed on the establishment of a Japan-Viet Nam Energy Working Group under the Joint Committee between Japan and Viet Nam on Cooperation in Industry, Trade and Energy operated under the co-chairmanship of both ministers. Based on the MOC, the Japan-Viet Nam Energy Working Group has been held.

2. Overview of the Japan-Viet Nam Energy Working Group

The Japan-Viet Nam Energy Working Group, held on July 12, 2018, was co-chaired by Mr. Masaomi Koyama, Director, Overseas Energy Infrastructure Office, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Mr. Le Van Luc, Deputy Director General, Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Viet Nam. The agenda items included;

It is expected that energy cooperation in Viet Nam, where power demand is rapidly increasing, will be strengthened through this working group.
