The Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC), a council established under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) pursuant to the Industrial Standardization Act, selected two projects proposed as standardization projects by middle-sized enterprises, SMEs and other entities and chose topics as successful projects in which new standards will be developed taking advantage of the Standardization System for Cultivating New Markets. Advancement of standardization concerning outstanding technologies and products developed by middle-sized enterprises and SMEs is expected to contribute to creating new markets.
Standardization of new technologies and products contributes to enhancing customers’ trust and differentiating them from similar technologies and products. Eventually, standardization brings about numerous benefit for companies that can cultivate new markets by taking advantage of their new technologies and products. From this perspective, it is important for middle-sized enterprises and SMEs, in particular, to strategically engage in standardization activities.
In May 2014, METI formulated the Public-Private Strategies for Standardization, aiming to strategically develop standards that can bring about the creation of new markets and enhance industrial competitiveness. Under the strategies, in July 2014, METI established a Standardization System for Cultivating New Markets under which, by omitting the conventional step of reaching consensus in industrial associations, Japan is able to quickly develop domestic standards (JISs) or submit proposals for new international standards (to ISO/IEC) for outstanding technologies and products owned by companies or their group companies, including middle-sized enterprises and SMEs.
METI hereby announces that the JISC Standard Board for ISO Area determined the following themes as new target projects for standardization taking advantage of the Standardization System for Cultivating New Markets.
Topics chosen as target projects for standardization, taking advantage of the Standardization System for Cultivating New Markets
|Proposed topic||Proposer (location of the company)|

The Japanese Standards Association (JSA) will establish a committee to prepare draft proposals, consisting of representatives of the companies that proposed the topics above and other experts, and the committee will prepare draft proposals for developing new standards for the technologies under the topics. Following the completion of the draft proposals, JISC will examine the proposals and establish new domestic standards (JISs).
