“2019 Health and Productivity Management Award Event” to be Held

Selected enterprises under the 2019 Health & Productivity Stock Selection Program and the 2019 Certified Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organizations Recognition Program will be honored at this event

January 31, 2019

To publicly honor outstanding enterprises engaging in health and productivity management and hold discussions on approaches to its promotion, an event titled 2019 Health and Productivity Management Award is to be held on February 21, 2019.

In Part I of the event, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) will jointly honor outstanding enterprises selected under the Health & Productivity Stock Selection Program from TSE-listed enterprises engaging in health and productivity management in which such enterprises focus on and strategically carry out efforts with regard to their employees’ health from a management perspective. Following this, the event will host a symposium bringing together investors and representatives of selected enterprises under the Health & Productivity Stock Selection Program, focusing on various topics, including communicating health and productivity management information to capital markets.

In Part II of the event, a symposium will be held on the promotion of health and productivity management among SMEs.

Moreover, organizations selected by the Nippon Kenko Kaigi under the 2019 Certified Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organizations Recognition Program will also be honored at this event.

1. Outline of the Health & Productivity Stock Selection Program

“Health and Productivity Management” is a management approach in which enterprises focus on and strategically carry out efforts with regard to their employees’ health from a management perspective. It is thought that enterprises’ investment in health conscious activities for employees based on their corporate philosophies contributes to encouraging the vitality of employees, enhancing productivity and other organizational vitalization, thereby leading to an improvement in performance or stock prices as a result.

As part of efforts based on the Future Investment Strategy 2018, METI and TSE will select exceptional TSE-listed enterprises that are engaged in health and productivity management as leading companies under the 2019 Health & Productivity Stock Selection Program, and present such outstanding enterprises to investors who prioritize the improvement of corporate value from a long-term perspective as attractive investment options. Through this program, they aim to encourage entities to engage in activities that promote health and productivity management.

2. Outline of the Certified Health & Productivity Management Organization Recognition Program

Under the Certified Health & Productivity Management Organization Recognition Program, the Nippon Kenko Kaigi examines large enterprises, SMEs and other organizations that are engaging in health-conscious activities in collaboration with health insurance society members and are promoting the activities led by the Nippon Kenko Kaigi, and recognizes the most outstanding enterprises engaging in such efforts to  enhance their public profile (e.g., increase attention from employees, job seekers, related enterprises and financial institutions) as organizations focusing on and engaging in strategic health and productivity management efforts as described above.

The recognition program is separated into two categories by organizational size: the large enterprise category and the SME category. The Nippon Kenko Kaigi will recognize outstanding enterprises for the respective categories.
