Opening of the 2010 APEC Japan Meeting Preparatory Office
Japan will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in 2010. In preparation for them, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has set up the 2010 APEC Japan Meeting Preparatory Office within its organization.
Japan will act as the APEC chair for about a year from the latter half of 2009. During this period, Japan will host various APEC meetings, from the senior officials meeting this autumn to the summit meeting scheduled to be held in Yokohama in the autumn of 2010.
To enable arrangements to be made for the successful running and management of the meetings through a ministry-wide effort, on April 15 METI set up the 2010 APEC Japan Meeting Preparatory Office, headed by Setsuo Iuchi, Director of the Trade Policy Division, Trade Policy Bureau.
* The Ministry of Foreign Affairs established a similar preparatory office on the same day.
