The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) hereby announces the results of examination of the Good Design Award 2009 organized by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization (JIDPO).
Of a total of 2,952 entries, 1,034 designs received prizes, including the following special prizes:
• Good Design Award "Best 15" (15 designs)
Specifically, the Good Design Grand Award will be granted to one design by the Prime Minister and the Good Design Gold Award to 14 designs by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
• Sustainable Design Award (granted to three designs by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry)
• Life-Scape Design Award (granted to three designs by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry)
The Good Design Grand Award will be granted to one of the “Best 15” designs on November 6, 2009 by ballot at the awarding ceremony, with the Good Design Gold Award granted to the rest.
The Good Design Award was established by the former Ministry of International Trade and Industry back in 1957 and was transferred to the JIDPO in 1998. It is Japan’s only comprehensive design award and recommendation system as well as one of the largest and oldest design awards in the world.
• Good Design Award "Best 15"
The award is granted to 15 outstanding designs.
• Sustainable Design Award
The award is granted to designs that have contributed to creating a sustainable society, with global environmental issues taken into account.
• Life-Scape Design Award
The award is granted to designs whose concepts are appreciated by users and expected to set a trend.
