The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Green Energy Partnership will hold the “Green Christmas Fiesta,” which consists of a number of events for promoting green electricity. The goal of the Green Christmas Fiesta is to increase the recognition of green energy and foster its widespread use.
The Green Christmas Fiesta will feature a wide variety of activities, including illuminations in which Green Power Certificates are used, participation in “Eco-Products 2009,” which is one of Japan’s largest exhibitions of eco-friendly products, and a talk and live performance show with Green Santa, an environmental goodwill ambassador from Denmark, as a guest.
METI asks for your cooperation in promoting the introduction of green energy.
To facilitate the introduction of green energy sources, such as solar energy and wind power, it is essential to encourage businesses and industries to increase the use of Green Power Certificates, as well as enhance the involvement of consumers in green energy use. From this perspective, the Green Energy Partnership was formed in June 2008, with the aim of allowing enterprises, green power generation companies, and other related entities to work in cooperation to spur the use of green energy.
This is a project to promote the introduction of green energy through the use of green energy for illuminating landmark buildings, large commercial facilities and shopping streets in many parts of Japan. The project takes advantage of Green Power Certificates. As many as 86 facilities (more than 105 sites), almost double the number last year, will participate in this year’s Green Christmas Light-Up.
Some of these facilities and events will be illuminated in green in an attempt to visually communicate to people across Japan a message that helps prompt the introduction of green energy.
The Partnership will host several booths in “Eco-Products 2009,” which will take place on December 10-12, to display products manufactured using green electricity, a panel outlining the Green Power Certificate, and information on programs implemented by Partnership members. At the same venue, a seminar for increasing the use of green energy will be held in order to allow visitors to learn about ongoing efforts by companies and municipal governments.
This is a public relations event for consumers. Under the theme of “Green Energy for Creating the Future,” it will feature a talk session on green energy and a live performance by artists highly interested in environmental conservation.
Date: Thursday, December 10, 19: 00-20: 00
Venue: Maru Cube, 1st floor, Marunouchi Bldg. (2-4-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo)
