Announcement of the "Asia-Pacific Industrial Science & Technology and International Standardization Cooperation Program"

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced the "Asia-Pacific Industrial Science & Technology and International Standardization Cooperation Program", which stipulates Japan’s new policy concerning cooperation with Asia and the Pacific area in the field of standards and conformity assessment.

1. METI formulated the Asia-Pacific Cooperation Program to set forth Japan’s new policy concerning cooperation with Asia and the Pacific area in the field of standards and conformity assessment. The program was approved at the plenary meeting of the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee held on Monday, April 26, from 14:00.

2. This program was developed in line with the New Growth Strategy (Basic Policies) and spells out cooperation in the following areas:
(1) Promotion of R&D and international standardization in an integrated manner
(2) Enhancement of conformity assessment systems to ensure the fair performance evaluation of energy-efficient equipment
(3) Cooperation in standardization activities that contribute to the development of regional industries in each country
