Republic of Costa Rica announces its decision to adopt Japan’s digital terrestrial broadcasting format

On May 25 local time, the Republic of Costa Rica announced that it had decided to adopt Japan’s digital terrestrial broadcasting format (ISDB-T).
Costa Rica is the seventh country outside Japan to use ISDB-T, following on from the adoption of the system by Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, and Ecuador.

1. Since Brazil adopted Japan’s digital terrestrial broadcasting format, called the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T), in 2006, the government of Japan and Japanese industry have been eagerly encouraging South American countries to use this format.

2. As a result, on May 25, the Republic of Costa Rica announced in an official gazette that a government ordinance stipulating that the country will adopt Japan’s digital terrestrial broadcasting format, following Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela and Ecuador.

3. Now that Costa Rica has officially announced the adoption of ISDB-T, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will support the country in areas such as industrial cooperation and human resource development to further economic relations between the two countries.
