Action Plan for Promoting the Introduction of Solar Power Generation

-Simultaneous announcement with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism; and the Ministry of the Environment

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and related ministries have formulated the “Action Plan for Promoting the Introduction of Solar Power Generation.” It identifies specific measures to be taken, with a view to encourage a wide range of parties concerned to take action in line with a number of government decisions concerning solar power generation.

1. METI formulated the “Action Plan for Promoting the Introduction of Solar Power Generation” in cooperation with related ministries (the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism; and the Ministry of the Environment). It is designed to encourage a wide range of parties concerned to take prompt action in line with the government goal of promoting the introduction of solar power generation, which is spelled out in the Action Plan for Achieving a Low-carbon Society (approved by the Cabinet in July 2008) and other policies.

2. The Action Plan aims to encourage private enterprises and municipal governments to take actions, and through close cooperation with related ministries, parties concerned will work toward promoting and supporting the introduction of solar power generation. It is also expected to help create new industries and jobs and thereby both invigorate the Japanese economy and usher in the new era of solar energy.

3. This Action Plan is only the first step, and METI plans to induce the development of specific introduction projects through collaborations and to publicize the impact of the new era of solar energy in a joint effort with related ministries.
