Announcement of Carbon Footprint Mark

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been working toward the establishment of Carbon Footprint Program, under which products carry a label indicating the amount of CO2 emissions generated throughout their lifecycles (from material procurement to disposal) with an eye to preventing global warming. As part of that effort, METI will exhibit labeled products such as daily items and food on a trial basis at “Eco Products 2008” to be held in December this year. METI solicited applications for the Carbon Footprint Mark program in July and received more than 500 applications, from which knowledgeable persons and experts selected the most appropriate.
