As part of efforts of the “Study Group for Developing and Promoting a Carbon Footprint Program”, trial carbon footprint products, which carry a label indicating the amount of CO2 emissions generated throughout their lifecycles, will be exhibited at “Eco Products 2008” to be held on December 11.
1. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) began convening the “Study Group for Developing and Promoting a Carbon Footprint Program” and the “Review Conference on Calculation, Labeling and Evaluation of CO2 Emissions” (*1) in June 2008 to pursue a desirable carbon footprint program which uses CO2 emissions as greenhouse gas emissions generated throughout product lifecycles (from materials procurement to disposal and recycling).
2. As part of their efforts, trial carbon footprint products will be exhibited for the first time at “Eco Products 2008” (at the Tokyo Big Sight) (*2), from December 11 to 13, pursuant to the rules under examination. There will be 40 kinds of trial products or 54 items from 30 companies (manufacturer, retailers) that are members of the study group. These products will carry a “Carbon Footprint Mark” indicating the amount of CO2 emissions, which were calculated on a trial basis. The mark was selected from applications solicited publicly.
3. In addition, the “Carbon Footprint Mark” award ceremony and seminar will take place at the site of Eco Products 2008.
