Statement on the establishment of “International Nuclear Energy Development of Japan Co., Ltd.” by Minister Ohata
Statement by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Akihiro Ohata

1. Thirteen Japanese companies (nine power companies, three nuclear power-related manufactures, and Innovation Network Corporation of Japan) today announced that they will jointly establish a company called “International Nuclear Energy Development of Japan Co., Ltd.” (JINED) on October 22. The new company will be engaged in activities to win nuclear power plant project orders in the emerging countries.
2. Internationally expanding the Japanese nuclear power industry is named as a key goal in the “New Growth Strategy,” the Government’s recently formulated policy. This goal is highly significant for establishing a safe and reliable nuclear power plants based on Japanese technologies, contributing to Japan’s economic growth, and maintaining and enhancing Japan’s nuclear power industry and nuclear power infrastructure.
3. As the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, I cordially welcome the establishment of JINED and strongly hope that the company will serve as a major driving force for bringing together world-leading Japanese technologies and experiences and disseminating them in the emerging countries.
4. To support this initiative, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will continue to make utmost efforts in cooperation with related ministries to hold high-level intergovernmental discussions, facilitate the conclusion of bilateral agreements on nuclear energy cooperation, assist other countries in laying the groundwork for nuclear power generation (development of human resources, the legal framework, etc.), and enhance the risk compensation capability of public agencies.
