Q: The first meeting of the FFR was held in Washington DC on August 9 of local time. Would you tell us what your thoughts are on the first day’s discussion, and what you expect for future discussions?
A: Regarding the FFR meeting, I understand that discussion will be continuously held on the next day. As it is an ongoing discussion, I would like to refrain from making comments at this time.
Q: What do you expect for this continued discussion on the second day?
A: As I have been reiterating, I expect that the negotiation will result in future cooperation for establishment of high-level rules on trade and investment between Japan and the US.
Q: Prior to the discussion, you visited several Midwest states of the US in order to ask for understanding regarding Japan’s contribution to the US economy and employment through its investment in the country. How do you expect such visits will affect the discussion?
A: My previous visit to the US was not intended for such a purpose, rather, just at the timing when the Diet session had finished, I wanted to confirm with my own eyes how Japanese investment in the US was understood by local stakeholders, and offer related facts and information through local media. The visit itself was very successful, but it was not intended to serve FFR discussions in any particular way.
Q: I am sorry to ask, but do you have any report on the FFR?
A: I do not.
