Workshop

CDM in the Post-Kyoto Regime

Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), Japan

Tuesday 22nd, March and Wednesday 23rd, March, 2005.

1. About the Workshop
It is important to promote energy conservation and renewable energies all over the world. However, CDM has limited success to@meet this goal so far. What are the necessary action for us to make a@change? In this workshop, we focus on institutional design issue of the incentive mechanisms to promote energy conservation and renewable energy in developing countries. We review the proposals, and further call for inputs, to meet the challenge. Your inputs are of vital importance. CDM, being one of the major innovations of the Kyoto Protocol, has been operating for three years since COP7. Kyoto Protocol is entering into force, and the negotiation on post-2012 framework is about to start. Against this backdrop, it is time to review the current status of CDM and check if the theoretical merits are materialized, and to consider how CDM can be reformed. Has CDM been investor friendly? Has it contributed for sustainable development? How can we remove the barrier and enhance opportunity? In this workshop, a workshop issue paper will be provided by@the host to set the scene, international experts are invited to provide the knowledge, and stakeholders are invited to provide insights to the process. This workshop is the first one of the two year project, which will provide final result at COP/MOP1.
