Director-General, Economic and Industrial Policy Bureau
FUJIKI Toshimitsu

Mr. Fujiki Toshimitsu has served as Director-General of the Economic and Industrial Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) since July 2024. Mr. Fujiki is instrumental in planning, designing and implementing METI’s policies in these areas.
In his previous role as the Deputy Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Mr. Fujiki oversaw budgets, personnel affairs, and digital transformation in METI. He put his efforts into formulating the MVV (Mission-Vision-Value) of METI and led a bold organizational restructuring that took place in July 2024.
As the Director-General of the Manufacturing Industries Policy Bureau, Mr. Fujiki oversaw METI policy related to various industries including automobiles, machinery, steel, chemicals, and textiles. As the Director-General for Commerce and Service Industry Policy from 2017 to 2020 he was in charge of enhancing efficiency in the distribution and services industries, expanding the use of cashless transactions, and managing international exhibitions.
As the Director-General of the Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Department for the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Mr. Fujiki worked to expand the use of renewable energy and develop next-generation energy systems to realize smart communities and a hydrogen society. He also led amendments of the Feed-in Tariff Act for Renewable Energy.
As the Director of the Policy Planning and Coordination Division, Minister's Secretariat, Mr. Fujiki took charge of METI’s overall policies. As the Director of the Corporate Affairs Division, Economic and Industrial Policy Bureau, he led the drafting of large-scale investment tax credits. During his time as the Director of the Finance Division, Small and Medium Enterprise Agency, he helped mitigate damage to SMEs following the 2008 global financial crisis.
Mr. Fujiki is a graduate of the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Law and earned a Masters of Applied Economics at the University of Michigan.
He was born on January 19, 1966, in Kanagawa Prefecture.
