Mr. Hatakeyama Yojiro has served as Director-General for Commerce and Service Industry Policy since July 2020. In this role, Mr. Hatakeyama is responsible for enhancing efficiency in Japan’s distribution and services industries, expanding the use of cashless transactions in Japan and managing international trade exhibitions.

During his career, Mr. Hatakeyama has held a range of key government posts. These include Director of the Policy Planning Division, Electricity and Gas Industry Department, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE); Director of the Policy Planning and Coordination Division, Commissioner’s Secretariat, ANRE; as well as Director of the Policy Planning and Coordination Division, Minister's Secretariat.

In his previous role as Director of the Policy Planning and Coordination Division, Commissioner’s Secretariat, ANRE, Mr. Hatakeyama formulated the strategy for Japan’s energy policy and coordinated policy planning for budgets and taxes.

Prior to assuming his current role, Mr. Hatakeyama oversaw policymaking across METI while serving as the Director of the Policy Planning and Coordination Division, Minister's Secretariat.

Mr. Hatakeyama graduated from The University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Law.

He was born in Tokyo on June 11, 1969.
