State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry
KOGA Yuichiro
Mr. Koga Yuichiro was appointed State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and State Minister of the Cabinet Office on November 13, 2024.
In these roles, Mr. Koga leads the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry’s (METI) efforts to support Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan as well as promote Japan’s industrial competitiveness.
Prior to his current appointment at METI, Mr. Koga served as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Cabinet Office.
Since first winning election in 2014, Mr. Koga has served as a member House of Councillors, the upper house of The National Diet of Japan, representing constituents in his home prefecture of Nagasaki. During his time in the House of Councillors, Mr. Koga has held several important posts parliamentary posts and served as Chairman of key government committees.
Before seeking national public office, Mr. Koga served as Deputy Mayor of Nagasaki City.
Prior to entering politics, Mr. Koga served as a public servant for about twenty years at Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and in the Ministry of Home Affairs, the predecessor agency to MIC. During his time in public service, he rose to serve in several senior positions in municipal and prefectural government.
Mr. Koga is a graduate of the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Law. He was born on November 2, 1967, in Nagasaki Prefecture.
