Commissioner of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
SUDO Osamu
Mr. Osamu Sudo has been serving as Commissioner of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency engaged in supporting and developing the SME sector in Japan to enhance its sustainability and productivity.
Since joining METI, he has served in the Industrial Structure Policy Division, as well as the Development Division of the Public Benefit Service Department, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy. He assumed the office of Deputy Director of the Industrial Safety Division in 1994. From February to March 1995, he dealt with the aftermath of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake as a member of Minister Ozato's Special Assignment Office. He then assumed the offices of Deputy Mayor of Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture. He has also served as Director of the Industry and Labour Department and Director of the City Center Revitalization Office of Fukui Prefecture, where he helped promote local industries. Following the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station in 2011, he helped plan support for disaster victims and lift evacuation orders as the Director of the Support Team for Nuclear Disaster Victims of the Cabinet Office.
He served as Director of the Industrial Machinery Division and Director of the Budget and Accounts Division, before assuming the office of Director of the Support Team for Nuclear Disaster Victims in 2017 and Executive Director of the Fukushima Soso Reconstruction Corporation in 2018.
Most recently, he served as Director General Fukushima Nuclear Accident Response and Reconstruction in 2022.
Mr. Sudo is a graduate of the University of Tokyo Faculty of Economics.
He was born on August 22, 1966, in Hokkaido.
