Ms. Yoshikawa Yumi was appointed Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry on October 6,2021. She is a member of Japan’s House of Councillors, representing Mie Prefecture since 2013. Ms. Yoshikawa was the first female member of the House of Councillors from Mie Prefecture. As a member of the House of Councillors, Ms. Yoshikawa has served on several key policy committees including as Chairperson of the Committee on Education, Culture and Science and Director, Committee on Economy and Industry.
Immediately prior to her current posting at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ms. Yoshikawa served as Deputy Director, of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Women's Affairs Division; one of several key posts she has held in the LDP.
Before seeking elected office, Ms. Yoshikawa worked in the private sector including as a banker for Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.
Ms. Yoshikawa is a graduate of the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology’s Graduate School of Agriculture where she earned a Master’s degree. Ms. Yoshikawa was born in Mie Prefecture on September 4, 1973.
