Preserving the Earth for future generations through innovation
The Fifth Annual Meeting of the Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF) welcomed more than 1,000 experts in the energy and environment sectors, representing approximately 70 different countries, to Tokyo from October 10-11, 2018.
Promoting worldwide open innovation
Climate change is already affecting the world on a global scale. To preserve the Earth for future generations through innovation, experts in government, industry, and academia should share cutting-edge knowledge and collaborative partnership.
The Government of Japan launched ICEF, which provides unique opportunities for global experts from different fields to discuss innovative ways to address issues of climate change.
Countermeasures against global warming are sources of competitiveness
The theme of the Fifth Annual Meeting was “Driving Green Innovation.” Discussions focused on business-led technological innovation towards decarbonisation and social innovation involving industry and consumers, to create a “virtuous cycle between the environment and growth” and helping companies which enact environmentally-friendly policies attract more capital.
Stepping toward a brighter future
ICEF identified the following three key priorities for future actions:
- Inspire investment in technology, products, and services for green growth.
- Involve industry and consumers in accelerating technologies and innovation for decarbonisation.
- Internationalize cooperative efforts to deploy the outcomes of innovation.
The work of ICEF aims to tackle the climate change to preserve a vibrant Earth for future generations. Together with partners around the world, Japan will continue to drive initiatives to create innovation in the areas of energy and environment.
